TDS Late Fee & Interest

Pick what you need — the late-filing fee or the interest. The tool fills in every statutory due date for you, so you only enter the amount and one or two real dates.

What do you want to work out?

Total tax in this return — the late fee cannot exceed it.

When you actually deducted the tax.

When you paid it to the government.

Date of the bill, credit or payment — whichever was earlier.

How it is worked out — s. 234E & 201(1A)

  • 234E late fee: ₹200 for each day the statement is late, never more than the TDS/TCS in that return.
  • 201(1A) late deduction: 1% per month (or part) from the date the tax should have been deducted to the date it was deducted.
  • 201(1A) late deposit: 1.5% per month (or part) from the month of deduction to the month of payment, where paid after the due date (the 7th of the next month; 30 April for tax deducted in March).
  • Any part of a month counts as a whole month, so the month of deduction and the month of payment are both counted.
